William (Bill) John Rush, 85, of Dormont, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 24, 2018. Born in Mount Washington, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late William Thomas Rush and late Ruth Rush he lived most of his life in Dormont. Bill was proud to serve in the US Marines during the Korean War. He enjoyed movies and the company of his large and close family. He then completed studies for drafting and graduated as valedictorian at Connelley Technical Trade School. He worked as a draftsman on large projects for Blawnox, Dravo, Swindler-Dressler and other companies in the steel industry. This allowed his large family of 6 kids to live comfortably in the Pittsburgh suburbs. In his spare time he founded and enjoyed leading the Shiloh Street Tambellini Eagles to city softball championships as a pitcher and manager. He also founded the citywide Golden Triangle softball league. Before retiring he worked security for Port Authority Transit. Bill was happily married to his surviving wife Molly for 63 years. He is survived by their children Gary, Linda (Geno), Janine (Fred), Daniel (Diane), Robert (Sherry), Gregory (Natalie), and his brother Richard Rush.
He will be greatly missed by his 10 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, aunts uncles, nieces, nephews and his many friends.
A funeral service will be held at Resurrection Cemetery in Moon Township on Wednesday, June 27th at 11 a.m.
The family will receive friends on a date to be determined for a celebration of Bill’s long and storied life. Additional details will be posted on family Facebook pages. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Thomas Merton Center or the charity of your choice in Bill’s honor.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Joseph M. Somma Funeral Home, 5405 Steubenville Pike, Robinson Township PA 15316.
